Leave your valuables at home. If you can’t, bring a lock with you to lock up your belongings.
Follow water safety rules, and explain them to your children. Make sure that your child doesn’t run, splash, or dive if it is not allowed.
Watch children at all times. Don’t look away even to check your phone or have a conversation.
When swimming with your family, keep children under five years old within reach, and keep at least one hand on babies and toddlers at all times.
Keep small children away from drains and pumps. Encourage older children to tie back long hair and remove jewelry and loose clothing, which can get caught if drains are uncovered.
Use sunscreen when spending time in the sun, and cover exposed skin with a white shirt or hat if you want. (NYC pools don’t allow T-shirts with colors.)
