Holiday breaks are a great time to bond with the family. Find out how you can keep your kids busy with these free or low-cost activities.
The holidays are meant to be a relaxing time, but that can change if your kids get bored. Minimize the risk of boredom by taking some time to plan out activities this season.
Check out these free or low-cost options to see how you can prep for a successful, stress-free holiday break.
It can be challenging to keep your kids moving, especially when the cold weather hits. Get creative and make some festive art or games like snowman slam. You can even start a game of hide and seek or set up a treasure hunt to keep your kids active.
Check out some quick and easy exercises for a fun alternative as well. If the weather is still nice, you can venture outside to enjoy a nature walk or explore NYC hiking for the added health benefits and views.
Depending on your child’s age, you can make cooking a fun activity for them. Whether they learn more about food prep or about how to make healthy choices at the grocery store, letting your children help in the kitchen can benefit them. Plus, it’s a great way to spend time together, even if you have a busy schedule.
Make volunteering fun with the family. Create some personal and festive gifts for those in need, get out into the community to help at a soup kitchen, and much more.
You can even make going through old clothes fun. New Yorkers get rid of around six million tons of waste every year, and a lot of that can easily be donated instead. Simply sort through old clothes, art, or office supplies, and turn it into a game. Play dress up or help them start a play or show to put a spin on it. Then, figure out what to donate when you’re done.
You could end up with some memorable pictures after these activities, so why not make a keepsake from them? Go through some old and new pictures to create a collage or scrapbook together. Check out digital scrapbooking or print some photos from your phone at your local CVS or FedEx to get started.
If you don’t have too many photos, you can always get creative with magazine pictures or find things around the house for inspiration as well.
